First Ever Blog
If you know anything about me, you’re probably thinking this should have happened way sooner. Like back when I first discovered its existence in 1994 (while I was rocking a Khanga with Doc Martens). But apparently, 2026 is the chosen golden year to finally marry text to art.
So, what is this blog series actually going to be about?
Wanting my art to stand on its own, I would like to write about all the things surrounding it. The art practice periphery, if you will. The raw material that carries, shapes, and eventually forms the art.
We'll be diving into stuff like my Tanzanian upbringing; the music, food, textiles, language, storytelling, mysticism, magic and mangoes. Plus, everything over here on this island of the Commonwealth; trees, water, mountains, spiders, badgers, ancient rituals, green men, witches and apples.
You might think these topics are too vast and plentiful, but I see so many compelling crossovers between East Africa and England. And right there, in the middle, is where we will be dancing.
